The Philippine Music scene has evolved for the past few years. Often, it was dominated by foreign artists whose concepts are mainly Pop, R&B and Mainstream music. Now, Pinoy bands are emerging and paving the way for the future of the OPM. It was the late 80's and early 90's were rock bands have dominated the airwaves. Now, rock bands are back and they are the main item of radio and video stations nowadays. Its been the 'in'-thing. I believe that this band, Cheese had made a part in that resurfacing of Pinoy Rock bands. I've always like the sound of Cheese. They have this unique sound that encompass music genres like punk, funk, rock, hip hop, trash, and techno music.
Their first self-entitiled album was a hit. It had songs that made other Rock enthusiasts appreciate the gray sides of Trash. 'Fine ', 'Gaido' and 'Garden Fresh' were my favorites. Fine is loud but distinctive in terms of approach and style. Gaido is undisturbingly twisted yet rich content-wise. Garden Fresh has a good beat and tempo and Ian, shows why he is the band's frontman through his sheer vocal prowess.
The second album, Pilipinas has something to prove. Despite the emergence of various Rock bands, Cheese was the choice to be the front act for the foreign band POD when they had their tour in 2001. To me that separates them from other upcoming bands. Its a mark of distinction. Mottaka which is their carrier single did prove that the second album was worth the wait. It shows freshness and the fact that Cheese is continually evolving. Parusa their second single from the album is also fine. [an understatement of the song] The song is worth anybody's time to listen to. Monkeys is also a personal favorite excluding the fact that Greyhoundz collaborated with them. [another favored band of mine] Its loud as expected but the substance and delivery was commendable.
Of course, these are my sentiments about the band and all. If you have a different approach then I respect yours. I am not a professional analyst or something. This is my site so I rule here. Thanks anyway...hehe...
